Hi everyone. I haven't written anything here for some time- I had to finish my studies (I am MSc now finally, yupi!) and tidy up my portfolio.

And now it's here- freshdesign.dk has finally got a fresh and clean look. It looks just as I wanted it to look like. Navigation is clear (but at the same time quite catchy). I've made it as a one page folio with smooth movements across the page elements. The galleries for each of the project are made with Lightbox.

And this is how it looks like (but you actually have to go and see for yourself how it works):

Grzegorz Domaradzki (iamgabz.com)- another Polish designer who makes it big. Beautiful style- drawings with a bit of Photoshop or Illustrator (or both). Looks cool! And one day I would like to have an ability of working just like Grzegorz- being a freelancer who can choose what projects to work on and doing stunning work.

The idea of designgive.com is simple. Designers donate a T-shirt design and in this way promote themselves. People who buy the T-shirts select charity organization that they would like to support. Money goes for the good cause and everybody is happy.

And moreover, some of the T-shirts that you can (or could if they were in stock) buy are just awesome. And the names of some of the designers are really big: Si Scott, Brooke Nunez, Paul Macgregor.

I need to put some limits on number of pictures uploaded to my server (the daily traffic on Blastyle blog is really impressive nowadays). So that's why I selected only 5 T-shirts to be presented; take a look:

Born in Russia, Yulia Brodskaya started her career in Moscow, "producing contemporary office decoration artwork" for the companies there. Meantime she was studying Graphic Design. After she made M.A. in Graphic Communication in London she works now both as an illustrator and freelance graphic designer.

Her clients include RedBull, Orange, BBH, How2 T-shirts. She won some design prizes- 1st prize in Russian Conceptual Packaging Design Competition, she was also a Member of the International Society of Typographic Designers in 2006.

She makes original works which she calls "papergraphic". Take a look at them below:

It's going to be the longest post in the history of Blastyle blog with the biggest number of works. If you read it through you will see works of not one, not two, not three but FOUR graphic designers!

Their works are completely different and it was a hard decision for me to put them all together into one post. Anyway, I decided so here it is.

I have stumbled upon the website of Unseen Agency and got fascinated by some of the works I have seen there. I've selected 4 artists out of 10 associated in the Unseen Agency, then selected 2-3 works which best illustrate their talents and skills and now I'm presenting them for you. Here they are:

1. Nick Deakin. Clients: The Guardian, Orange, New York Times, Virgin, Computer Arts Magazine.

Sicksystems is a design studio from Moscow, Russia. The agency is formed by 3 talented guys: Aske, Kio and Kola (I love their nicknames :)) They started as graffiti artists some years ago and actually this influence is quite visible in most of their works. Now they are working with various media and in many design areas. They are very careful about the geometrical forms and shapes as well as the graffiti-like typography.

In the portfolio there are plenty of good works: advertising commercials and posters, clothing (T-shirts, accessories), snowboards, logotypes. Plenty of good stuff- below I present just a few examples of their works. Enjoy!

Oh Yeah Studio is a small graphic design studio from Norway composed of Christina and Hans Christian (btw I already wrote a post about someone else from Norway before). In the portfolio of Oh Yeah Studio all of works presented are non-commercial, customer-intervention-free. As they call it: "stuff after dinner".

Their style is quite difficult to describe. They use quite clean backgrounds, usually some grey gradients. The main elements of the picture are clearly presented and placed. What I like about their works is simple structures and the fact that fonts and shapes look unreal and unnatural. Hmm, as I said: it's hard to describe their works, better to look at them.

Devante Chang is a graphic designer from Portland, USA who has moved to Korea and is now working there. He had his works presented on many exhibitions in Seoul, Korea.
Definitely, out of all his works I admire most the illustrations made with the collage technique. I presented selected works below, I hope you will enjoy them as much as me.

Alberto Cerriteno is a graphic designer and illustrator from Mexico. The style of his illustrations is quite recognizable- while looking at the his works you have a feeling that this man really has got style and experience. Both of his portfolios design and illustration consist of massive amount of works. Personally, I like the illustration part more- the animals and creatures created by Alberto are stunning- beautifully shaped details, textures and of course the perfect line and style.

And this is what Alberto is talking about his work (cited from webesteem.com):

I used to call myself a multimedia designer because I like to use different tools in one single project, for example, I like very much to illustrate, to create motion graphics, 3D stuff, interactive applications all to create an original way to communicate some idea or message successfully.

Here are two examples design works taken from Alberto's portfolio:

Indeepop is a "psychodelic world of fantasy, happiness and tears, good and evil, the world of sweetness and bitterness, mysteries and secrets, the world of bipolarity, absolutely unlike ordinary". The site is developed by the Russian team of designers who make works about the creatures living in Indeepop world. Their interests relate to various areas of art: illustration, sketches, streetart, skateboards etc. All of those media are explored by the designers who give the viewers the insight into the "indeepop" world filled with funny creatures, colours and lots of fun.

The concept of creating the new imaginary world and then trying to earn money on the merchandise related to it is quite old already. The project seems to expand and develop quite well but I think it needs some more integrity within the works to become more convincing for the audience. Project called Friends With You is (in my opinion) very successful in being a cohesive and attractive fantasy world. It might be useful for the Indeepop team to see how they have done and maybe rethink and consolidate the strategy.

Still, I don't want to say that I don't like the works which are presented on Indeepop website. I wouldn't talk about this project if I didn't like it: it's obvious, right? I like especially the illustrations (looks like I talk about illustration a lot recently) but also the skateboards are worth checking.

Guilherme Marconi is a Brazilian designer with a huge passion for colours. The amount of colours is very characteristic for the designers from Brazil. Many of Marconi's works contain massive number of elements which correspond to one specific theme. The pictures are covered completely by the shapes: lego building blocks and toys in the picture below or the snacks and drinks (picture number 2). It must be really time consuming to work on such pieces but the effect is incredible.

Guilherme has created many advertising illustrations for the huge companies: Nokia, Absolut Vodka, Vodafone, MTV Brasil. Really impressive!

Would you like to revise some of the things you had a chance to learn in primary school? Playing a game called BBC Questionaut, a Flash game developed by Amanita Design you have a chance to do it in a pleasant, entertaining way. In a game you get a chance to travel across the knowledge universe visiting different planets and solving the puzzles and answering different questions divided into 8 categories. The quiz questions you will have a chance to answer include mathematical problems, biology, physics, writing etc.

Astonishing picturesque graphics combined with the sound effects and beautiful music created by Floex (Tomas Dvorak). It was a pleasure for me to play this game and admire the beauty of the world created by the talented Czech designers from Amanita Design studio.

Polish graphic designers are really talented- I said that many times before but I will say it one more time now. I already wrote about some Polish artists (Maciej Mizer, Maciej Blazniak, Pawel Nolbert, Peter Jaworowski, Kacper Spala, Jan Felisk Kallwejt). Now it's time for Tomasz Opasinski- graphic designer who succeeded in being one of the most popular and productive poster designers in Hollywood movie industry. His posters worked as advertisement for so many famous movies- at first when I browsed through the Tomasz Opasinski's portfolio I couldn't believe that all of those posters could be done by one person. The movies that were advertised by Tom's works include "The Fountain" (directed by Darren Aronofsky), Disney's animated "Cars", "I am Legend" (starring Will Smith), "Bandidas"(starring Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz), "Hulk", "Memoirs of a Geisha" and many more. Tomasz Opasinski has received many awards for his works: Guru Award on PhotoshopWorld conference in 2002 (category: "collage"), 3 Golden Web Awards given by International Association of Web Masters and Designers and many more.

In one of the interviews Tomasz Opasinski says that posters' industry is really hard and that it's not only about Photoshop and graphics. One needs to have the ability of thinking strategically, talking with the customers and this is really hard to do in Hollywood's business. He also admits that work of poster artist in Hollywood movie's industry is difficult because of the amount of work that has to be done in relatively short time.

The most exciting part of Opasinski's portfolio is the "evolution" where you can look at what was the starting point of the works (mostly posters) and the final version after all the layers, details and colours were added. It reminds me of the "before" and "after" known from the commercials of dietary programs :).. But here such a comparison really makes sense and gives the idea about how much work has to be done to achieve such astonishing effects. Below you can find 3 examples I have selected- please visit Tomasz Opasinski's website to have a look at more of them- the collection is really huge.

IMAGES PRESENTING POSTERS DELETED ON REQUEST OF TOMASZ OPASINSKI.

Apart from commercial works made for Hollywood movie companies it is also worth mentioning that Tomasz Opasinski created many interesting experimental works. The amount of details present in those pieces of art is incredible- Tomasz has said that it's really a great experience if you look at the work printed to fully appreciate the complexity of the elements and colours. The images below do not have the satisfying resolution but still you can get the idea of how beautiful they have to be. It's not surprising that Tom is an Adobe Certified Expert and a member of American National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Congratulations, Tom!

Neil Duerden is a designer based in UK, living near Manchester. In his portfolio in the "advertising" folder you can find plenty of beautiful works related to advertising campaigns of well-companies: Nokia, Toyota, Coca Cola, Land Rover. The latter is presented below:

I think it's the first billboard presenting dishwash that I really like:

Kacper Spala - kacperspala.com

Believe me or not- I really do not read any Polish design magazines/blogs. It's not my fault that there are many good designers living in this beautiful country and they are present in the international design blogs and websites.

I don't remember exactly where I first encountered the works made by Kacper Spala. However, I remember that it was this beautiful black and white photo manipulation that you can see in the picture number 1. The amount of details and the perfection of this image is stunning and I couldn't take my eyes away from it.

kacperspala.com is a neat portfolio where you can find more works related to the photo manipulation, abstract art, posters and corporate id. Enjoy!

Nik Ainley - ShinyBinary.com

Nicholas Ainley is a UK-based designer specialising in caring-for-details illustrations and graphics.

Nik Ainley's portfolio (shinybinary.com) is full of the really nice works. There is plenty more than what is presented above. Some are quite scary, for example the image presenting melted elderly woman's face.. Brrr, it's too horrifying and real to be put on my blog. ;)

Overall, the works are enjoyable. However, the website itself looks quite old fashioned and there is a big need for making it more pleasant for the viewers- I think Nik could get even more interest from people then if it looked more fancy. The other thing is that his portfolio looks to be quite popular- Nicholas is boasting of hundreds of thousands visitors. Congratulations, Mr Ainley and I look forward to seeing more cool works there.

Another Polish designer, I won't count how many of them already got their own post in my blog. Is it my fault that they create amazing works and that they are popular in the designers' world? I hope you will agree with me that the works presented above are worth looking at and presenting here in my decent blastyle blog.

Vivid colours, amazing shapes and lines and care for details- in short about his style.

In his portfolio you can find advertising and branding works that he made for international companies. He did many works for Nokia and Nike, but other companies and organisations include Fanta, Unicef, Oakley, British Airways. He also designed a some music album covers (in portfolio you can find the cover for the album of Polish hip-hop artist, Pezet).

Peter Jaworowski works currently in Ars Thanea, creative studio based in Warsaw.

Maciej Mizer is a 2D and 3D graphic designer from Poland living in my home city, city of Lodz. The works he is doing are so vivid and colourful which stands in big contrast with overall quite grey and sad look of the city he lives in. Probably the passion of colours has something to do with another passion of Maciej, graffiti. On his website you can also see some examples of his graffiti arts.

Anyway, I have spent much time admiring some of his works and I really cannot exactly say what techniques and methods were used to achieve such astonishing effects.

Keep up good work, Maciej!
